I am a big fan of making things for loved ones. Some of my friends and family are easier to make for than others. For example, it is not easy to craft or sew for my husband, dad, or brothers – although I do try. I made scrabble coasters for my husband for Christmas and he seemed semi excited but I won’t bore you with the many that haven’t worked. Luckily, I have people in my life that I know will usually be keen on a homemade gift, like my sister-in-law Hanna. She is also a crafter who makes jewelry and draws incredibly well (as well as many other talents) and therefore appreciates handmade gifts possibly more than anyone I know. Check out her jewelry here.
In April, for her birthday, I surprised Hanna with a zippered bag and flower crown. I made the zippered bag with one piece of fabric on one side and pieced together fabric in combining colors on the opposite side. The pouch is fully lined and fully functional for carrying items. I specifically selected sunflowers for Hanna because I know she likes them and they remind me of her.
Take a look at the pictures of the completed bag:
Then I made her a flower crown. Want to make your own? I simply took a long piece of ribbon, artificial flowers with the stems removed, some felt to add a little cushion to the glued flowers, and hot glue. For this crown I added a special glass flower that was made a long time ago by my father (he used to make tons of them so that my mom could use them to make wedding bouquets and headpieces) and luckily my mom still has some.
Here is Hanna with her gifts. She looks happy, right?
It’s always nice to see others light up when they get something made just for them. Looking for something special to give a loved one? Check out my budding Etsy store for items that may make yours or someone else’s day!
