A Lot about Life, A Little about Crafting

Crafting often infiltrates many areas of my life. In October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I held a contest at work where anyone wearing purple (domestic violence awareness color) could put in a daily entry to win a purple hand painted clutch made by me.

The trick worked and each day I enjoyed the competiveness and fun that it brought to people who work tirelessly each day to end this health epidemic. After a month of purple blouses, pants, cardigans, nail polish, hair accessories, and purses the entries were aplenty.

Although October has come and gone, and although this is a crafting blog, I can’t miss the opportunity to share that domestic violence knows no boundaries, doesn’t discriminate, and is never the victim’s fault. There is hope for survivors and each of us plays a role in eliminating it. I couldn’t be happier to bring my crafting and advocacy worlds together. Let every month be domestic violence awareness month in hope that everyone being abused will find peace.

Congratulations to Gissa Infante, the winner after wearing lots of purple!

College Football

I love college football. It means that fall is around the corner and although in Florida that doesn’t mean much weather wise I still enjoy what comes with this time of year. Fall means things like pumpkin flavors, including pumpkin beers with cinnamon and brown sugar rims, the start of a new school year, and the start of college football. Of the aforementioned I mostly enjoy college football because of the comradery; a group of people getting together wanting and cheering for the same thing. Win or lose friendships are fostered.

This past Saturday a few hours before the Florida Gators, my favorite team, played I had a last minute idea to make an orange and blue bag. After a trip to the fabric store I pieced together a cross body bag similar to a bag I previously made for my sister in law. She often tells me how useful the bag has been for her and she’s received a few compliments. That feels good! This is what I made:

Photo enhancements make the blue and orange look a little different but who doesn’t enjoy filter magic?! The bag is small enough to force me to decide what the essentials are and let go of those that aren’t. Thank you college football for the inspiration, fun, and unity. If it’s not college football that brings energy and fun into your life, what does? Whatever it is, do it.
